After nearly FOUR years and 46k miles, my Boostang has excessive play in the driver side rear wheel. Either the wheel bearing or hub assembly entirely is loose, and it seems I’m not the only one to have this issue, as forum searching has accounted for many premature failings regarding this....Big whoopie! So that means the Mustang is going to the dealer first thing in the morning and there’s no excuse for warranty not to cover this (looking at YOU, powertrain).

Because I need a car to get to and from work , I had to expedite the repairs on the 924 I’d been taking my time on for the last three weeks. The shift rod is two pieces, with one rod selecting the gears, and the other acting as a supportive guide rod to keep everything precise. It attaches at the rear with a ball cup and socket joint that’s gotten very worn out over 40 years.

This is something I should’ve done months ago when I was doing the rear main seal and clutch and it was within easy reaching, live and learn right? To speed up the process, my friend and I opted to drop the rear suspension to gain further access to the bushing you see in the first pic. This allows for the gearbox and torque tube to come down low enough to get a pry bar and dead-blow to remove and install the old and new parts respectively. Actually wasn’t that difficult, and only took about four hours. Even though the car still needs an alignment and a new windshield (still cracked), it’s as ready as it’ll ever be for a week of long commuting.
